Digital literacy is vital in the present scenario. It forms an insight into digital technology among people. A digitally literate person can use online messages effectively.

Technology is dominating us everywhere. So, it is important that every adult and child should have digital knowledge.

As a result, Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan was launched. It was started under the scheme Digital India Programme.

The main aim of this Scheme is to literate 6 crore households in rural areas.

It is the Scheme of the government introduced under the Digital India Programme. PMGDISHA aims to make a 6 crore rural population digitally literate. Its goal is to improve the lives of rural people.

The scheme’s objective was to make digital and IT training attainable to up to 40% of rural households. It was planned to cover these numbers by choosing at least one digitally illiterate person from every eligible family. The government planned to achieve this target by 31st March 2019 but the plan has been exceeded to date.

It is vital that digital technology is exposed to all members of society. This is the demand of the era. Otherwise, there will be a massive difference between rich and poor people.

This Scheme will work as a bridge for society. It will divide the gap between the powerful and the poor. It primarily targets rural people including vulnerable sections of society such as Minorities. It focuses on BPL people, women, and differently-abled persons.

Not anyone can be part of PMGDISHA. To participate in this scheme, you need to fulfil the eligibility criteria of the PMGDISHA.

• A person who is digitally illiterate from every suitable rural household.
• The age limit is between 14-60 years.

Priorities will be given to

• Basic Phone users and school dropouts. Antyodaya households and participants in the adult literacy mission.
• Digitally poor school students from class 9-12th to whom ICT training is not provided.
• SC/ST, Women, BPL, differently-abled persons, and minorities.

The course duration of this programme is a minimum of 20 hours. It could be held for a minimum of 10 days and a maximum of 30 days.

The training’s content is available in many scheduled languages of India apart from English.

Central Government Scheme

Nearest Training Centre/ Common Service Centre (CSC)

• Under this scheme, one member of each family will be digitally trained in rural India. Every person will be able to take digital education from it.
• With the help of this scheme, rural people will be able to use the internet.
• Due to this scheme, rural people will be able to use digital devices such as laptops and tablets. They will use computers, Android mobiles, etc.
• With the proper knowledge of digital devices, you’ll be able to make an online payment. You can also get online information about other government apps.

The training process is of 20 hours. It has to be finished in a minimum of ten days and a maximum of thirty days.

• Understanding digital devices’ basics are important. Here, the basics mean terms, navigation, and purpose.
• To access, manage, create, and share information using digital devices.
• To browse in a responsible manner using the Internet is necessary.
• Use technology so that you can communicate effectively.
• Acknowledge the contribution in your day-to-day life.
• Go for cashless transactions. For this, you need to use eWallet/ AEPS/UPI.

This scheme is supported by many NGOs, educational institutes, corporates, etc. A training partner of PMGDIKSHA should be registered in India. The partners should have definite objectives and well-documented processes. They should cover the entire range of education/IT training.

• The training partners are responsible to choose the Training centres in the identified Districts/Gram Panchayats/Blocks. These centres would be helpful in imparting training to the assignee.
• Training partners are responsible to ensure that the training centres fulfil the needs of PMGDIKSHA.
• Their job is to audit the complete work of the centres under their horizon.
• A training partner shall be accountable for reporting the work credited to the centres.
